I've tried as root and non-root, both fail.
But the install matrix shows aht support for Ubuntu 16.04 has been dropped? And that is the platform that I am using.

I guess that's your answer, then. There's already not a ton of support or expertise available for linux installs. I wouldn't know how to troubleshoot it, other than upgrade one, or downgrade the other
