Accessing data stored on external HD

Hi all,
I have a ton of data stored on an external hd and would like to be able to access that data from the current folder pane in Matlab (in other words make a directory/folder on the external HD the current folder) But because I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 Matlab will only let me navigate to my home folder and doesn't see the mounted external HD. Is there a way that Matlab can see mounted external drives?
I'm running Matlab R2019b.

That seems like an OS issue...can you see the drive via
!ls
? If so, don't know why MATLAB wouldn't also let you set a path to it....but I don't know nuthink! about non-MS OS any more.
