Hi,
I understand that you want to know about the validity of student license and why there is an expiration date associated, if the license term is perpetual.
Please note that as specified, Student-Individual License is a Perpetual license which allows indefinite access to the software as long as you are a student. The same can be found at MathWorks pricing and licensing website:
However, as mentioned on the website, the perpetual license includes only the first year of Software Maintenance Service (SMS). For more information regarding SMS, please refer to the following MATLAB Answer:
Therefore, the time limit you see in your MathWorks account refers to the expiry date of your current SMS i.e. after the first year, the SMS included in your purchase expires. If you want to continue the SMS subscription, you must renew it annually after the first year. Nevertheless, you can continue using the version of MATLAB and Simulink you purchased even after the SMS expires.
Kindly note that there are certain usage terms and conditions associated with various offered licenses. You can refer to it using the following link:
You can also read the MathWorks Software License Agreement using the following command in MATLAB:
edit(fullfile(matlabroot, 'license_agreement.txt'))
I hope this answers your query.
Regards,
Zuber
