Delay automatic unfolding in App Designer due to syntax errors in function definition

I have built an image fitting app that I use for my work. The app has several private functions, which I occasionally edit.
For example, I might edit the input arguments to a function as follows:
Before the edit: function5(app,arg1,arg2)
mid edit: function5(app,arg1,arg2,) (note the syntax error at the end)
done editing: function5(app,arg1,arg2,arg3)
If i'm very fast, everythign is fine. However, if i'm not very fast, and MATLAB notices mid-edit that I have the syntax error in 'function5(app,arg1,arg2,)' then the app designer unfolds EVERYTHING, which is annoying considering i have 4000 lines of code.
Is there some setting I can adjust so matlab will just CALM DOWN and give me a hot second to finish my edit so I dont have to refold and then unfold to the spot i want?
