Calculation speed and settings

Hi,

I noted that a Matlab code runs very slowly on my laptop, compared to the university desktop (235 hours vs 46 hours).

I am surprised because the desktop is very old (I do not remember the technical details now), while the laptop is the newest macbook pro with 16 GB RAM. How is it possible? May I change some default options to fasten it? I cannot modify the code, because it is very long and complex, so I prefer to use it as downloaded.
