How can I read this text file in MATLAB?

Hello,
I have a text file which only includes some numerical values. I used the followng code to read this text file and then convert the data to a .csv file. But it doen't work and give me empty matrix. Could you please help me with this problem. (I have also attached the txt file)

There are extra tabs at the end of the lines that may be throwing it off. I used the data import wizard in MATLAB to generate this script to read it. The textscan function is also a way to read in text data and is more powerful than fscanf.

An alternative method that will work for a wider range of MATLAB versions is to use fread() to read the file. It is encoded with a 16-bit encoding scheme, possibly UTF-16, so I tell fread() to read two bytes at a time:

In this case there is a special character at the beginning of the file with value 65279, so I remove it (it'll mess up the str2double() conversion later if I leave it there). I don't know what this value means, but I read that Notepad sometimes may add this to the beginning of a file.

You are using versions of MATLAB in which MATLAB automatically scans files to determine the character set encoding. The 65279 at the beginning of the file is the UTF16-BE "byte mark", and newer versions of MATLAB automatically detect it and adjust appropriately. R2019b did not yet do that.
fid = fopen('N3-1.txt','r', 'native', 'utf16be');
should allow the file to be read properly as char (but there would have been a warning about utf16be possibly being partly unsupported.)
