Programming Intel Edison with Simulink

I am currently working on a Simulink model for a Arduino mega but the processor is quite slow and I am interested in expanding my model for use on the Intel Edison system. Will Mathworks be adding support for this device soon? (A Simulink support package for either external or normal modes) The Intel Edison can be programmed with Arduino IDE so is it reasonable to suggest it can be coded with Simulink? Will a complicated S-Function or other work-around be needed to use this hardware?
Thanks

I would also be very interested in a solution for this. Probably it is possible to compile Edison specific code as s-Function containing legacy C-Code but without proper implementation within Simulink there is no way to deploy the models on Edison Hardware or monitor its outputs in a scope. Still it might run if you generate your whole figure as C-Code and integrate it into your favored Edison IDE... Not very handy though...

More generally, I am interested in knowing if Intel Edison and Intel Galileo will be some target platforms for Matlab and Simulink. Will the MakerZone be extended to these promissing platforms ?

There is no support for galileo yet (R2016a).
I have no information about whether support is forthcoming.

Although this thread is quite old, it might be stil interesting for you.
Our startup just added basic support for Intel Edison to Matlab/Simulink and decided to share it with the maker community.
Feel free to use/modify/extend this hardware support package for Simulink:
