Problem with Aviread function while trying to read an avi file.

hi, i am trying to read an avi file into matlab : i tried like this.

 mov = aviread('1.avi');
??? Error using ==> aviread at 76
Unable to locate decompressor to decompress video stream

it says like this. can any one please help me. whats wrong with this function.

The Solution below is fine as far as it goes, but needs to be extended to cover the case of 64 bit MATLAB versions.
