Can you be more specific? Are you trying to detect a specific object in a scene? Are you trying to recognize the object as a member of a category? What sort of objects are you looking at?

thankyou :) image analyst what specific program do you think will help me in my project? leaf recognition that are available in file exchange?

MATLAB is a good program. For a leaf recognition application, you're going to have to write that yourself because I don't think there's anything that specific built in to MATLAB. The Computer Vision System Toolbox has several tools that might be useful for you.
