Write a function with input .xls file to read

I am writing a function that will take inputs from excel data sheet and user input and compare it to see if the values are the same or not. I am not sure how to load my excel data sheet onto this function. Here is an example function:
iwant = ComputeValues(exceldata, userinput)

To load the excel data into matlab use readtable
To compare values you can use isequal, ==, etc.
