Why does MATLAB keep crashing my computer?

I bought a new Dell Inspiron (Windows 8) this Christmas and have been running MATLAB on it for about 2 months. However, all of a sudden, a week ago, I couldn't do any commands at all or even run basic scripts without MATLAB freezing up my entire computer. I've tried unistalling MATLAB and reinstalling, but it keeps happening.
Does anyone know why this is happening or have a solution to suggest?
