I wanted to use the help command to look up the userguide, but it doesnt work and returns me a bunch of errors :(

Error as follow:

It sounds as if you have a third-party newline function, such as from a package such as pplane or spm12 .

Check using

which -all newline
built-in (/MATLAB/toolbox/matlab/strfun/newline)
/MATLAB/toolbox/shared/hdlshared/@hdl/newline.p   % hdl method

if you see anything that is not built-in or inside a @ class definition, then it might be the interfering code.
