Why do I receive an error "Failed to start the connector with error... Desired port was: 31515. Last error was: Error while starting socket: 127.0.0.1:31614, Invalid argument" or "Error creating and setting up the model" when installing MATLAB?

std::exception::what: Did not start the server. Desired port was: 31515. Last error was: Error while starting socket: 127.0.0.1:31614, Invalid argument" or "Error creating and setting up the model" when attempting to install MATLAB?

This error is indicates that ports on the loopback address in the error message are being blocked. There are many things that can cause this including, but not limited to:
  • Installing from a shared drive. Move the installer to a local drive.
  • Antivirus/security software
  • Operating System firewalls
  • Misconfigured VPN
  • Misconfigured hosts file
  • Blocking said ports intentionally in another manner
If you would like to install MATLAB onto a shared network drive, run the installer from a local drive and set the destination to your network drive to avoid this error.
