Load Data in For loop

my problem is loading data in a for loop

i have N0,N1,N2,...,N999 data files

i want to load them respectively

for r=0:999

aa = sprintf('%d',r);

load('N' aa '.mat', 'AAA') ;

...

end

but it is not working so what can i do?

    aa = sprintf('%d',r);
    load(['N' aa '.mat'], 'AAA') ;
    % ...
end
