You are not testing whether the input text is actually a scalar. It is also not recommended to use this syntax, since it allows users to poke at the internals of your function.
You should use the 's' switch in your call to input, followed by str2double. Then you can use isnan to confirm it is a valid number, after wich you can use ismember to test whether or not the input is part of the list of allowed values.
