How connect to cloud historian

I'm trying to connect to a cloud (Tier 2) historian (time-based database) that's hosted by a third party (Wonderware/Invensys).
I'm using Microsoft JDBC SQL driver 4.1 and what I think is the correct server URL, username, password and database name, but I get the connection failed error message:
"Connection reset ClientConnectionId:" with some hexidecimal address info after that.
I can't seem to find any info online about what to do with that error message.
I'm also wondering if the jdbc driver I'm using on my local machine has to match the driver on the cloud, or is the driver simply used on my side?
Any suggestions appreciated,
