Why stateflow does not highlight the active state while running simulation, if the Stateflow chart is used in a Model Reference?

Stateflow referenced models focus on the Simulation of the model rather than the internal behaviour. Due to this, the referenced models do not highlight the active states.
A workaround for this would be to use the logging and debugging tools while using Stateflow.
Please follow this documentation for understanding debugging in Stateflow:

have you checked that the Simulation mode set in the 'Model Reference' Block is "Normal"?
In general the Stateflow animation does not support modes other than "Normal" (Accelerator/Rapid Accelerator).

Also the model which contains the 'Model Reference' Block shall be set to "Normal".
