Max Recursion even when using clear

I have a student, using 2023b, whose script wont run even when the "clear" function at the start of the program is reached. She gets the "MAX recursion limit of 500 reached" error. It's also saying that she's trying to use the same name as an inbuilt function. We know, we want thant inbuilt function to run. Any suggestions?

Don't name your script function clear.m. In command windows type
which clear
then rename or remove that file to restore the builtin function
