Unfortunately, MathWorks does not allow an update to be canceled once it's in progress. Canceling the process midway could result in a likely corrupted MATLAB installation, with some files being updated while others are not. The outcome is typically a MATLAB that won’t start. The Update Installer does everything it can to prevent corrupting an already installed MATLAB.
Here are a few things you can try if the MATLAB Update Installer is stuck:
- Try temporarily stopping the antivirus software (or any other security software/firewall that might hinder the installation process).
- You can attempt to forcefully terminate the process using Terminal or Activity Monitor.
