Report Generator Tutorial w/examples for DOM API? Manual is WAY too cryptic.

Hello!
I am packaging a product (using the Compiler) for a client. It's great using MATLAB for the GUI and to do the calculations, but they would like a nice, neat PDF report after they are done.
From what I understand, there is a new way to use Report Generator using the Document Object Model API; there is also a manual online at
http://www.mathworks.com/help/pdf_doc/rptgen/rptgen.pdf
but this is 986 pages long, and like most of the manuals, a chore to use to figure out how to actually DO something! Can anyone recommend a way to basically do this fairly simply? Example code is certainly the easiest thing to use and modify appropriately!
