Averaging values across circumference.

I am trying to compare two images in matlab by doing a subtraction of their matrices(in other words, finding the 'difference' between two). I want to average the 'difference' matrix along the circumference. I have origin points at the center of the image.
Also, i am trying to do all this without any image processing built in functions because i don 't have access to it.
