how to change the data type when read .xls file using xlsread() function

i created a xls file with uint16 data type, when i am trying to read it using xlsread() it store in double type, i use this code

varXls=xlsread('filename');

varXLs store my data in double i want it in uint16 type, help me to change this type

varXls = uint16( xlsread('filename') );
