How to detect the tick mark & the letter separately and print as text using matlab from the following image?

I suggest you build a library of all letters a-z with and without checkmarks, and an image of the checkmark alone. Then subtract the test image from each of your library images and find out which one has the least number of differences.

To print the images you have determined from what I just said, you can use the fprintf() function.

I have used the following code & the output images are also given here. I'm unable to understand how can the detection be done & printed in text here?
