Can I call the method of class,that is defined in an mfile on matlab search path, inside stateflow?

I know I can call the methods in Simulink blocks by using the syntax classname.methodname but when I try this in stateflow, I get this error "not a valid enum type". I guess the coder is looking for an emum type because the syntax is same for accessing the enum value of the class.
