How do I access emails from an email server(gmail,...) using smtp ?

I can see that there is a sendemail function but I found nothing regarding connection to smtp servers. I would usually connect to a email server (gmail,...) using smtp with authentification and then I would have access my inbox and deal programatically with it.

Thanks Samuel for the answer, tt is good to know that I can use gmail offline and store emails in sqllite. However, I need to be able to access my gmail account online and scan my inbox to analyse emails, this is a process that I will run every minute for example. Do you have an idea? Thanks
