Separate audio from .avi-file.

Hello!
I'm doing a school project where I analyze audio files with matlab. I now want to analyze audio from a .avi-file, but I wonder how I separate the audio from the .avi-file?
I have searched the internet and tried some methods but some of the answers I've found seems outdated or something like that because I can't get them to work. Any idea of how I'm supposed to do or what method I'm supposed to use would be very helpful!
