I use matlab at work. 1) Should I associate that license with this account for support, ask questions, participate in wiki, etc? 2) Are there nuances depending on whether the license is floating or node-locked?

Sure, why not?
The association of a license does three things:
1) Determines which documentation you are entitled to see, according to your software maintenance status (people whose maintenance has expired might not be able to access documentation for previous releases; people who have not purchased certain products might not be able to see their documentation)
2) It associates the account with a support contract, potentially allowing it to be used to open Technical Support cases (if the user is authorized by the license administrators)
3) It allows control of the licenses, such as authorizing and deauthorizing computers, if the user is one of the license administrators
It does not make any difference to asking questions on MATLAB Answers, or posting in the newsgroup, or participating in the Wiki.
The only nuance about the type of license is that with floating licenses, it becomes less likely that you are an authorized administrator for the license for the purpose of access technical support or the license center.

Thanks, that seems to address my main concern. I am strictly technical, so I don't anticipate the need to address license administrivia. I will give it a shot.
