Using workspace variables in Gui

hi
I want to develop simple gui consisting of only a Push button. On pressing this button i want to save all workspace variables in excel sheet. I am using xlswrite to copy variables to excel sheet. But when using gui editor, it goes into new workspace environment.So HOW DO I COPY OR USE THE WORKSPACE VARIABLES IN GUI WORKSPACE ? HOW DO I COPY THESE VARIABLES IN handles?
