Unrecognized characters

On editor or command window the characters are OK, but not in the figure.

When I enter

figure
text(0.5,0.5,'testing characters a, á, ã, â')

I get "testing characters a, Ãi, Ã£, Ã¢" on my figure

How can I solve it?

Additionally, the 'Font Size' property of TEXT function is ignored...

I have an erratic behavior on mac os x 10.6, and R2010a regarding options in fonts.

clf

colormap gray

imagesc(d)

title('Unfiltered image','FontWeight','bold')

xlabel('X (px)','fontweight','bold')

ylabel('Y (px)','fontweight','bold')

Whatever options I choose in title and labels, they are either ignored, or partially ignored. In this example, only the ylabel is plotted as bold.

Any idea what could be causing this ?
