Question about xpc target RS232 binary send

Hello, I am trying to setup serial communication between the target system and a sensor. To wake up the sensor I need to send a command byte through the serial port. I am currently trying xPC target RS232 (conventional) library to execute this. Which mode would you suggest I use(synchronous, Asynchronous, Raw binary) for executing this? Is there any way by which I can debug my target application?
