Database Toolbox Hangs after connecting

Hi fellow matrix manipulators,
I've been working on a project which involves connecting to an Oracle DB and have run into a few issues when using the DB toolbox.
When manually connecting to the Oracle db via JDBC everything works fine tables read and written without any issue, however when connecting to the same DB using the DB Explorer the toolbox states it connects 'successfully', however when opening the small drop down arrow to select a different table from the Database Browser in the current DB the toolbox opens the drop down menu, then the entire Matlab program hangs.
The only way to get things working again is to manually terminate the software using the Task Manager then relaunch. I'm running a completely x64 bit system; I've checked all all external software to ensure system architecture consistency with extensions to my system.
The console also does not display any diagnostic messages to guide me to where the problem originates or can be traced to...
Not sure where to turn to from here, I'm happy to use Jetbrains DataGrip or Oracle SQL Developer for the meantime but ideally I would like to have the toolbox working for an upcoming data science project.

EDIT: I've recently discovered that the Oracle x64 drivers have a few issues with Matlab x64, (https://au.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/35-why-am-i-unable-to-retrieve-any-rows-when-using-the-64-bit-oracle-jdbc-driver-in-the-database-toolbo#answer_38) does anyone know of a workaround for this?
