How can I include the control module which is represented by hyperbolic partial differential equations like wave propagation?

In some of the systems I presume that tere is a need to inculde the module which is represented by hyperbolic partial differential equations like eletric power flow, water hammer or hydraulic transients. In these systems, the variables, eletric voltage/current or water pressure/flow rate are numerically solved by method of characteristics. I am wondering if MATLAB & Simulink may provide the libraries to solve these problems.
