Plot labeled points on a grid

Hello!
I have written a kludgy routine to plot a rectangular array of points, number them, and delete individual ones using ginput(), returning the resultant array. I would like to know if there is something out there that actually plots on a grid and can scroll (if there are a lot of points, the whole array gets very small).
