difference between Normalized 2-D cross-correlation (normxcorr2) and 2-D correlation coefficient (corr2)

Hello everybody! Can anyone explain the difference between normxcorr2 and corr2? Why must be one image larger than the other for normxcorr2? Thank you all in advance.
