Writing outlook email from matlab

I am trying to send an email in outlook from matlab. The email needs to have multiple lines in it. I have been trying out different methods to create line breaks and new paragraphs such as:
[intro '<p>' body '<p>' sig]
['<p>' intro '</p> <p>' body '</p> <p>' sig]
[intro '<br>' body '<br>' sig]
[intro '<br/>' body '<br/>' sig]
No matter what I try, the email shows every symbol and does not do a line or paragraph break (I am using HTML formatting). Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I forgot to mention in the question that I am using ActiveX control for this.

Please see "More about" section in SENDMAIL function doc. SENDMAIL does not support HTML format.
