Assignment error when loading cvs file

I'm trying to load a cvs .txt file into an array:
data = csvread('ex1data2.txt');
but I get the following error:
% code
Error: File: ex1_multi.m Line: 134 Column: 6
The expression to the left of the equals sign is not a valid target for an assignment.
