What's going on in decorrstretch? (Image processing function)

Hello everybody, I'm using Matlab to build a prototype, that I have next to implement in low level optimized code for performances question. I've used the decorrstretch function, but i didn't find any reference of which method is adopted there, and on how i can reproduce the same result on my final application. Which is the algorithm used by decorrstretch? Is there anyone that know it? Otherwise, is there any equivalent technique in literature that i can exploit? Thanks in advance. Alessandro.
