How can I emulate a distributed network for debugging a parfeval solution

I currently do not have the distributed computing toolbox, but I do have the parallel computing toolbox. I've developed a method that uses the parfeval to kick off workers, but when I use this method on a distributed network, the system fails to deserialize the task and objects. If possible I'd like to emulate the distributed network locally on my machine for debugging purposes even if I need to get the distributed computing toolbox for my machine.
