Getting lon/lat information using cursor with world map

I am plotting data using:
worldmap('World')
load coastlines
plotm(coastlat,coastlon)
and then:
scatterm(lat,lon,data)
On the figure plotter I would like to use the data cursor to display co-ordinates of a point in lat/lon form but whenever I use the data cursor it displays numbers which don't seem to make much sense (definitely not lat/lon values)
