How to enable search in a Pop-up menu, in a Matlab GUI created with Guide?

I have a GUI for data analysis, created using Guide. There're a couple of Pop-up menus with some hundreds of sensor signals to choose from. Ideally would be to be able to search for a signal in the Pop-up menu, without adding another graphical feature in the GUI. And not just search the first 2-3 letters as by default, but a part of a longer string corresponding to the sensor name. Is this possible, and how?
The sensor names are typically something like:
  • Slave_1.app0.tc.sp_Speed
  • Slave_1.app0.tc.sp_Acceleration
  • Slave_2.app0.pf.pe_AzimuthAngle
  • Etc.
I would like to be able to search for e.g. "sp_Speed" and that the Pop-up Menu finds and selects the signal name.
