what is canon() function does ?

If i have system like that
R=100; L=1; C=1; A=[0,1/C;-1/L,-R/L]; B=[0;1/L]; C=[1,0]; D=0; sys=ss(A,B,C,D);
if i make the canon function like that
[systm,T]=canon(sys,'modal')
what actually happened ?

if you're ever unsure about what some command does, you could simply type on the command line,
doc canon
this applies to all functions in your code. For example,
doc ss
Pretty simple right?
