I am experiencing long delays in executing any command that produces some sort of output to the command line or a figure. For example, running
tic; pause(1); toc
gives
Elapsed time is 1.001567 seconds.
but the actual wall time is more like 10 seconds. Similar issues are observed when making figures. For example;
x =1:10; tic; figure; plot(x,x); toc
gives
Elapses time is 0.111163 seconds
but again the actual wall clock time is around 10 seconds.

Hi Vi Nguyen,
This occurs if you have loaded many variables or large values in your workspace.The workspace is updating and the operation is waiting for the workspace to update before executing.
To work around this issue, close the workspace and restart MATLAB. This will cause MATLAB to open without the workspace.
