STL to 3D binary Matrix

I have a binary STL. I need to convert it to a 3D array of 0s and 1s. I need to preserve the fill of this object. I have tried several things and it only gives me the edges. I'm not sure if its a problem with the way I'm reading the data or the way I'm converting it to binary. Seriously, I've tried a million different things and can't make this work.
