inline function help

I'm working on a school project and I need some help using the inline function. I'm using the inline function to create functions for derivatives of a system of equations, the problem I'm running into, is that when I take a derivative some of my variables might disappear, if there any command that let me check what the input requirements are for the inline function so I solve the problem accordingly.
I basically want to know if MATlab sees the function as a multivariable equation and what variables.

I would recommend using anonymous functions instead of inline functions.
