Inverted question mark instead of slash in uitable

I have a uitable in app designer in Matlab 2018a in with a column of editable strings. It works, unless I enter a string that starts with a forward slash. In that case, it displays an inverted question mark instead of the slash. event.NewData also has the inverted question mark, not the slash. If I create a uitable in a traditional figure instead, everything is fine. Is this a bug, and if so, can it be fixed?

I have submitted it as a bug report, and they confirmed that it's indeed one. I hope it gets fixed in a future version.
