Is it possible to draw a line outside the axis area near the labels?

Use annotations . They are not connected to the axes but to the figure itself.

This enables one to draw lines or arrows, but not markers (such as 'o','x','+','*','s', etc.). Is there a convenient solution for drawing markers outside of the current axis? Thank you.
