Matlab quites while running

I am running a function that uses the Neural Net toolbox of Matlab and while I let the network to be trained, the application quits with no warning messages. At least no messages that I can see. When I come back to the computer, the whole application is closed. I am using Matlab R2018a on macOS High Sierra 10.13.6. Any idea what the issue is?

Maybe it's related to this bug, considering it seems to happen after a long time away from the computer. Mathworks support team should know the answer.
