append non-compression data to matfile problem

I want to append a variable to a existed .mat file, but Matlab occurs error:
Nocompression not supported for this MAT-file version. Use MAT-file v7.3 instead.
below is the test code:
test=1;
save test test
T=rand(1e6,1);
save('test.mat','T','-append','-nocompression')
is there any mistake with my operation?

Try this:
test=1;
save('test','test','-v7.3');
T=rand(1e6,1);
save('test.mat','T','-append','-nocompression')
-nocompression is only supported for MAT-files created in v7.3
