mkdir with multiple subfolders that are variables

I want to create a subfolder with mkdir where the subfolder names are variables. As in
sub='first'
subsub='second'
subsubsub='third'
I want to create the folder first/second/third by referring to sub, subsub, subsubsub.

dirs = {sub, subsub, subsubsub}
for k = 1 :length (dirs)
Thisdir = fullfile(dirs{1:k})
mkdir(Thisdir)
end
