This creates a field in the structure y. This field is a cell array. Look at this:
Y.myfield = 2;
Y.yourfield = 3;
Y % Show the structure Y.
Y.ourfield{1} = magic(3);
Y.ourfield{2} = magic(4);
Y % Show the structure Y.
Now to access the values stored in the fields of the structure Y, use structure addressing:
R = Y.myfield
S = Y.yourfield
T = Y.ourfield{2}
